Hawes Primary Class 3

Nicole's Moving Model

Nicole made this model herself using a range of skills and she produced and edited this movie, on iMovie. She is the first person to produce their own iMovie in school, independently.

Great job Nicole.

Class Three ... Soapbox One 1

The year sixes (10 and 11 year olds) have been working really hard, quite often in their own time, to produce this first 'Soapbox' programme. we are all very excited and are already keen to get started on episode two, where we are hoping to make improvements all round. We all started with no knowledge of this type of work or technology and we think we have made loads of progress.

None of this would have been possible without the initial ideas and genius of Stephen Palmer's fantastic class at Russell street School (the digital school), New Zealand. Their award winning series 'Street Talk' http://streettalk.edublogs.org/  is the inspiration upon which we build. However we only had one borrowed MacBook between us, this didn't matter in the end because the whole team of students are absolutely magnificent in every way possible and it's a privilege to work with them.

Year Six and all the people who helped...THANK YOU...MR. E.

Christmas Gallery

Class three have enjoyed making some calendars for family and friends. These can be viewed on full screen and you can enlarge by clicking on individual viewing.

Developing 'Soapbox'.

There are lots of examples of children making short videos on their class blogs, especially in New Zealand and Australia. In our work on understanding rights and responsibilities and encapsulating an overall goal of wanting to develop the students communications skills, we have started on a new objective... developing our own programme/challenge format called 'soapbox'.

This video is the result of an impromptu session where class three trialled the idea of ad libing a video format where we had panelists and contibutors. They invented their own sound effect and just had a go. This video will be reviewed in the next session and we will see what improvements come about. Self assessment is very important and hopefully this will give the students a strong feeling of ownership of their learning. It will be interesting to see what critisisms they come up with and also what things they thought were good and that they had got right.

Maybe other classes might be able to share theirknowledge and experiences?

Class Three Share Their Reading With You Part One...

The children in our school have always enjoyed reading. There are over 700 books in Class Three, brilliant books by some brilliant authors. We are thinking about using video and sharing more widely what we do in class. it's interesting tosee reading going in phases. Some of the star writers are Jacqueline Wilson, Anthony Horowitz, Roald Dahl and Francesca Simon. It's great listening to the children sharing just a little about their favourite books, without any practise!

We have left some 'bloopers' in and some inperfect takes, because we want to reflect on our work and find ways to improve it.

Class Three Dance Club

I have been very impressed with the students in Class Three, they have persuaded me to let them run a lunchtime dance club. It is so good that when swimming finishes in a week or twos time, we might start an after school 'Dance Club' run by the students for themselves. Yeah, yeah!

Design Technology

We love design technology in school. We are really lucky having Mrs Dooley and Mr Sedgely working with us. Here we are just startin a project where we are making wooden toys. They will take some weeks to complete. Later in the term we will post an update.

We wonder what things you are making in your schools? We also wondered if you have fantastic facilities like they have in Switzerland, or do you just have a go with what is available like us?

Class Three get out and about!

Class Three is such a great class. They do a lot of different things in the course of a year and we just wanted to put up this post to show what we were doing at the end of last term.  The weather has changed now, skies are grey and there is often an icy rain in the air... it won't stop us enjoying ourselves.
